I earned a BA degree in journalism from California State University, Los Angeles, and a Master of journalism from Northeastern University. I have been published in the Los Angeles Times, Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Metrowest Daily News.

Life’s journey, however, took me through years of drug and alcohol abuse and, as a single parent, cornered me at the door of government assistance to support my three sons. But always the voice of my mother in my head – “Where there’s a will there’s a way.” I had the will but lost my way…for a moment anyway.

At my worst, I started cleaning offices nights for extra money. What started as a three-person cleaning service (me, my sister, and a girlfriend) grew to a $3.5 million company with 165 employees, servicing government and corporate clients in four New England states. I had a new attitude. One that said, “I can” and that moved me forward to become the recipient of several business awards including the 2000 Excellence Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the 1993 Small Businessperson of the Year for MA from the SBA, and the 1999 Vendor of the Year award from the New England Minority Purchasing Council.

In 2002, I sold my company and set out to write more and teach. I wrote and self-published my first book, a memoir, “From the Pits to the Palace”, in 2009 before venturing into writing fiction – “Hot Flash” and “Cold Flash”, the Muriel Mabley Mysteries.

Today I continue to write and teach business and communication courses at Worcester State University and Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA; Framingham State University in Framingham, MA; and the Center for Women and Enterprise in Boston, MA.
